Fourth grade is an exciting year for students for many reasons. One of those reasons is that students are in a new place with new and old friends. They also begin to learn more independence, yet continue to be supported by their teachers. In addition to this, many begin their IB journery here at Fifth Avenue through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). Being a student in a IBPYP school means that we support students in becoming more internationally minded in their understanding of the world and in their interactions with others.
The International Baccalaureate Organization's mission statement:
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The IB learner profile articulates the expected outcome of participating in IB programmes. We encourage our school community to embody and encourage each other to demonstrate the attributes of the learner profile. IB learners strive to be:
